Edison Chouest Offshore has launched the ECO Liberty, a new Service Operations Vessel (SOV) built to support offshore wind development in the USA. The vessel will be deployed this summer to assist with installation activities at Equinor's 810 MW Empire Wind 1 project off the coast of New York.
The hybrid-powered SOV was constructed at LaShip, Edison Chouest’s shipyard in Houma, Louisiana. Measuring 262 feet in length, ECO Liberty is flagged in the USA and was built using American steel and components sourced from suppliers across the Gulf Coast. More than 500 workers in Louisiana contributed to its construction.
A christening ceremony was held at the Port of New Orleans, attended by representatives from state and local government, the offshore wind sector, and project partners.
Once in New York, the ECO Liberty will provide logistical and technical support for construction at the Empire Wind 1 site. The project is being developed by Equinor and forms part of New York State’s broader offshore wind development goals.
