Lankhorst Ropes has provided high-capacity slings to Allseas’ vessel Pioneering Spirit for transporting and lowering a 7,300-tonne jacket for a converter platform in the German offshore BorWin 5 project. The Lankhorst Gama 98 slings held the jacket securely above the vessel’s stern during the two-day transit to the installation site.
These slings are a key component of the Pioneering Spirit’s Jacket Lifting System, used for platform installation and decommissioning. The system includes eight 25-metre endless slings made from Gama 98 Ultra Heavy Lift rope, manufactured in Portugal with a length tolerance of +/- 1.5%. The lifting setup uses six blocks to guide the slings, each fitted with two endless sling assemblies. Before the BorWin 5 operation, the slings were proof tested in line with DNV standards.
