The American Renewable Energy Standards and Certification Association (ARESCA) has announced its intention to publish a series of wind energy standards as American National Standards. The proposed adoptions are identical to international standards developed by IEC Technical Committee 88.

The draft standards cover drivetrain reliability, lightning protection, communications for monitoring and control, frequency domain and electromagnetic transient modelling, decommissioning and recycling, and the use of scanning Doppler lidars for wind measurements. Interested parties are invited to request further information or submit comments.

The standards proposed for adoption are:

  1. ARESCA 61400-4-1-202x – Reliability assessment of drivetrain components in wind turbines
  2. ARESCA 61400-24-202x – Lightning protection
  3. ARESCA 61400-25-2-202x – Communications for monitoring and control of wind power plants – Information models
  4. ARESCA 61400-27-3-202x – Frequency domain models for harmonic propagation studies
  5. ARESCA 61400-27-4-202x – Electromagnetic transients models
  6. ARESCA 61400-28-2-202x – Decommissioning and preparation for recycling
  7. ARESCA 61400-50-5-202x – Use of scanning Doppler lidars for wind measurements
