Enercon has introduced its Wind+ Storage concept, combining wind farms with battery energy storage systems for the German market. The solution integrates storage and a hybrid controller into new or existing wind farms, aiming to support grid stability and open additional revenue streams.
Battery storage with intelligent hybrid controllers makes wind energy more predictable and reliable, easing its integration into the electricity grid. It allows energy that would otherwise be curtailed to be stored and monetised, while also enabling operators to provide system services for grid regulation and benefit from optimised energy marketing. These features complement the framework of the Renewable Energy Sources Act.
The approach builds on more than 15 years of Enercon’s hybrid project experience and includes both hardware and software components. These range from hybrid controllers, which coordinate turbines, storage, grid and other units, to substations for direct feed-in to the high-voltage grid.
