The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has issued the planning approval for Vattenvall's Nordlicht II offshore wind project. Nordlicht Offshore Wind plans to build the wind farm in the German Exclusive Economic Zone in the North Sea, on site N-6.6, more than 84 kilometres from the island of Borkum and at least 96 kilometres from the mainland.
The project will consist of 44 turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, giving a total installed capacity of 660 MW. The awarded grid connection capacity is 630 MW. Full commissioning is scheduled by the end of 2028.
Nordlicht II will be connected to the onshore grid via the NOR-6-3 system, which includes the BorWin delta converter platform and the BorWin4 high-voltage direct current link. The wind farm will be linked to BorWin delta via a 66 kV direct connection operated by transmission system operator Amprion.
