Maryland attorney general Anthony G Brown has filed an amicus brief in support of US Wind’s request for a preliminary injunction that would allow construction of its planned 2.2 GW offshore wind project to resume. Work was halted in September under the Trump administration.

The state government argues the project would create thousands of jobs and deliver economic benefits estimated at up to £4.5 billion. It also cites expected public health and environmental gains, including reduced air pollution and support for Maryland’s climate targets. Opponents claim the project could affect marine life, alter coastal views and raise energy costs. The Maryland Public Service Commission has previously ruled that the development is in the public interest.
